We’re just going to introduce you to free tools for monitoring and managing Unix systems. These tools also provide pointers for diagnosing and resolving performance issues in a Unix environment.
Unix has the following main types of resources that need to be monitored and updated –
The following table lists some of the main components that take up the total system time ˆ’
User State CPU
The actual time the processor type spends executing custom lessons in a custom state. This includes the time it took to start the library until the moment it was called, but does not include the time the kernel spends on its own
System Status CPU
This is the total time spent by the processor on the system state part of this program. All I/O operations require kernel services. The programmer can influence this value by blocking I/O transfer
I/O time and network time
This is the time it takes for I/O requests to move slots and process data
Virtual memory performance
This includes replacing and replacing contexts
Time spent executing various programs (assuming the system is not serving this application because another application is currently occupying the CPU
Unix provides the following important tools for evaluating and fine-tuning the overall performance of a Unix system −
Runs the schedule in addition to the modified application Priority of the schedule
Prints network connections, forwarding tables, interface statistics, hidden connections, and multicast membership
Helps to determine the time of a simple visit or indicate the use of resources
This is system load average
Displays a snapshot of each running process
